At the beginning of March, Henry was neutered and had a gastropexy performed. (His stomach is now tacked to his body wall to prevent his stomach from turning over on itself.) Henry possesses a genetic abnormality called "the merle gene" and would produce deaf and/or blind puppies, so it was never a possibility for him. But here's the thing... it wouldn't have been a possibility even if he didn't have a genetic defect.
I don't believe anybody in their right mind would argue that there aren't enough puppies in the world. There are, without a doubt, without a question, too many puppies and even more kittens. Shelters are flooded daily with dogs and cats looking for happy, loving homes. For that reason, the argument "I always find homes for my puppies/kittens" doesn't hold water. Please realize that EACH pet that you produce takes the home of a pet sitting in a shelter.
After writing and deleting 6-7 more detailed paragraphs, I want to say only this: spay and neuter your pets, for their health and to promote a healthy pet population.
Now... Look at Henry!
